Tillage radish MINER

Raphanus sativus var. oleiformis Pers.
A tillage radish with long root, suitable for zero-tillage farming, cache/cover crops

  • Forms strong roots that improve soil structure and infiltration capacity
  • The tap root takes deepest roots up to 180 cm
  • Radishes bind freely available nitrogen in autumn and activate the vitality of the soil
  • With the improvement of air and air exchange, soils warm up faster; in spring - you can sow the following crops earlier
  • Freezes easily during winter
  • Perfect for minimal tillage
  • Very good component for green manure mixtures
  • Recommended in crop rotations of cereals and corn, legumes, suitable for rape crop rotations

Used for:
  • For green manure
  • For conservation of groundwater, nitrogen binding
  • For mulching the soil surface
  • For the accumulation of humus
  • For erosion protection
  • Can be used in no-till farming

Rating:
  • Mass formation at the beginning of growth – 7 points (out of 9)
  • Tendency to bloom – 6 points (out of 9)
  • Tendency to lodging – 4 points (out of 9)
  • Stability – 6 points (out of 9)
  • Weed suppression – 7 points (out of 9)
  • Erosion protection – 6 points (out of 9)
  • Water conservation / nitrogen fixation – 6 points (out of 9)
  • Accumulation of humus – 6 points (out of 9)
  • Resistance to cold and frost – 4 points (out of 9)
  • Drought resistance – 6 points (out of 9

Cultivation:
  • Loamy, clay and sandy soils with a pH of 5.5-6.8 are suitable for cultivation, it grows best in slightly acidic soil
  • Sowing after careful tillage promotes rapid and even development of radishes
  • It is recommended to fertilize N 40-60 kg/ha
  • Radishes grow best in cool, moist weather (10-18 °C)
  • Tolerates hot weather well
  • Maturity, adaptability and resistance to diseases may vary depending on specific climate and/or growing conditions
  • Plant protection measures usually are not necessary

The varietal parameters may differ from those indicated here when the testing circumstances differ from quondam

Recommended sowing rate: 6-8 kg/ha.

For late sowing period or if there is a poor dispersion or high proportion of organic material/straw after harvest, the seed rate should be increased up to 18 kg/ha.

It is recommended to sow in mid-August, since sown earlier (until mid-July) will not produce large roots (plants will start flowering).
